Ron Howard: George Lucas had Input in Solo A Star Wars Story

George Lucas may have given the reigns of Lucasfilm over to Kathleen Kennedy, but he is still very involved in the universe, being like the Stan Lee of Star Wars. In a recent appearance at the Star Wars Show, Solo director Ron Howard revealed that Lucas actually came to the set of Solo, and even gave him some input on the character.

Howard explains:

"George came and visited on day one… I felt nothing but supported. It was great to have him there. I was even kind of prodding him, and he finally gave me a good idea on a little Han Solo behavior, so we can even say he pitched in.

He's always shown a lot of confidence in me and support, and it's meant a lot over my career. His friendship means everything."

Though Lucas may have been the one to introduce everyone to Han back in the original Star Wars, Solo is ultimately writer Larry Kasdan's baby. It was said that he had the idea for the film way before the Disney acquisition, and that former directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired since they couldn't stick to his script.

I'm not always a fan of creative differences, but Lucasfilm must have some real faith in this script to fire the directors so far into the production. At least Lord and Miller will still have their names on the project, being credited as executive producers.

Catch Solo: A Star Wars Story when it hits theaters May 25.
