Speaking with Variety recently, Levy opened up about his untitled Star Wars movie and revealed that he was mandated by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy that his tone and style would be reflected in the project.

"When Kathy Kennedy brought me on board to make a Star Wars movie, her central mandate to me was 'I want a Shawn Levy movie. I want a story and a tone that reflects you and your taste and what you bring to your movies — with a Star Wars story.' So I have felt extremely empowered," he shared.

"We are in early days, unfortunately, because the development process was abruptly paused [due to the WGA strike], but I feel very empowered to trust my instincts in the development of this story and movie."

Levy also discussed how his experience making Deadpool 3 under Marvel Studios gave him more encouragement when he embarked on the Star Wars franchise.

"The experience that I’m currently having with Marvel on Deadpool is showing me firsthand that it is indeed really possible to feel empowered and personal about making a movie within a universe that is bigger than any one film," the director said.

"My Deadpool movie is turning out to be exactly what Ryan [Reynolds] and I had hoped when we started off. So I’m going into the development of my Star Wars movie with a similar optimism, and faith that my instincts will be allowed to lead the way."

While the details might not be a lot for some, it is still intriguing nonetheless since it is a sign that Levy's Star Wars movie will be more or less akin to his past films which are mostly action-packed with a comedic overtone.

However, you still can't help but wonder when this project will end up becoming a reality since most Star Wars movies that are in development under Kennedy get delayed, canceled, or stuck in limbo. Hopefully, Levy's project won't end up having a similar fate.
