Shang-Chi May Revisit Unexplored Period in the MCU

There's a lot of excitement building up over Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Not only is the film supposed to introduce the Marvel Cinematic Universe's very first Asian superhero, but like Black Panther,Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings also going to break ground by being the Marvel movie with a mostly-Asian cast.

While there haven't been that many reports regarding Shang-Chi with COVID-19 halting the production of the highly-anticipated comic book movie, it seems like a video taken from the set of the film reveals how the project may tackle an unexplored era of the MCU.

Taking note of a set video released last week, ComicBook.com suggests that Shang-Chi may change the Marvel film franchise when it premieres.

In the Shang-Chi set video released on Twitter, fans get to see Simu Liu (Shang-Chi) and Awkwafina's character getting off a cab to arrive in what seems to be a disreputable part of a city district. Though the clip only shows a quick establishing shot of the two arriving and exciting the cab to track down some kind of lead, Liu and Awkwafina walk pas a wall with the year 2020 painted in graffiti on the edifice.

Does this 2020 graffiti mean that Shang-Chi is going to be set between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame?

In Endgame, fans were taken to 2023 five years after the events of Thanos' Decimation in Avengers: Infinity War. If the 2020 graffiti is an indicator of time, then Shang-Chi may explore this turbulent timeline.

Let's wait and see.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set to premiere on May 7, 2021.
