Sex Education, one of Netflix’s hit series, has come to an end. In Season 4, following the closure of Moordale Secondary, the students move to a new school – Cavendish College.

Otis sets up a new clinic while trying to make his long-distance relationship with Maeve work. The rest of the Moordale students adjust to their new school while they deal with their personal problems. So, what happened in the ending of Sex Education Season 4?

Sex Education Season 4 Recap: Who Is the Father of Jean’s Baby?

In Sex Education Season 3’s finale, we find out that the father of Jean’s baby is not Jakob Nyman. In Season 4, we see Jean facing the challenges of being a single mother. She is also heartbroken over the fact that Jakob left after he found out that he wasn’t the father.

It is later revealed that Joy’s father is Dan, one of Jean’s casual past lovers and someone who Joanna, Jean’s sister, is currently dating. When Joanna asks Jean if she’s sure Dan is the father, Jean responds that she is 95% sure. In the finale, Dan gets invited to the Milburn house and talks with Jean.

Sex Education Season 4 Ending Explained: Do Otis and Maeve End Up Together?

No, Otis and Maeve do not end up together in the Sex Education series finale. Throughout the season, they try to make their long-distance relationship work. Later on, Maeve goes back to Moordale after her mother, Erin Wiley, dies.

Maeve gets discouraged from becoming a writer after her tutor, Mr. Molloy, says that she doesn’t have what it takes to be one. So, she decides to give up on her dreams and stay permanently in Moordale.

However, Maeve later has a deep conversation with Jean, and the latter encourages her to keep believing in herself and not let one teacher dictate her future.

Maeve then tells Otis that she’s going back to America. She explains that it has always been her dream to get out of Moordale and that she loves it out there as she feels like the best version of herself.

Otis realizes that she may not be coming back, and Maeve suggests that they can still make it work.

However, Otis thinks that he will just be holding her back. So, they ultimately decide to break up. They also agree not to contact each other for a while as they think it’s for the best.

Sex Education Season 4 Ending Explained: What Happened to All the Characters?

While Otis doesn’t end up with Maeve, he doesn’t end up with Ruby either. In fact, in the finale, when Otis tells her that he hopes they could still be friends, Ruby responds that she already has a lot of friends and leaves.

Ruby’s decision is probably the best for her considering that Otis “messed her around” last season and this season.

Adam and Eric do not get back together, but they do make their peace and move on. In Season 4, Eric focuses on his connection with the church and the community. In the finale, he reveals to Otis that he wants to become a pastor.

As for Adam, he starts working at a farm in Season 4 and decides to give his father a chance. In the finale, we see him becoming open to the idea of his parents getting back together. He also starts embracing his bisexuality and comes out to Jem, a girl he likes at the farm.

Jackson finds out the truth about his father. In the past three seasons of Sex Education, Jackson always believed that his father was a sperm donor.

In Sex Education Season 4, it is revealed that Jackson’s father is a man named “Jerome”, a person his mother Roz had an affair with. And after ignoring Cal for the entire season, he reaches out to them in the finale.

In Season 4, Cal experiences gender dysphoria and goes missing in the finale. Eric and Jackson end up finding them and assure them that they are not alone. Later on, the students of Cavendish decide to raise money for Cal’s top surgery.

Viv confronts her emotionally coercive boyfriend Beau and tells him to leave her alone or she will report him.

Aimee overcomes what happened to her on the bus. She burns the jeans in the middle of the road and throws a photoshoot at the bus stop. Aimee also starts a relationship with Isaac after Maeve gives them her blessing.

The final episode of Sex Education ends with Otis reading a letter from Maeve. Maeve says that while it hurts that they can’t be together, she will never close herself off again.

In the letter, Maeve writes, “Meeting you cracked my heart open, and now it’s forever changed. And because of that, I will carry a part of you with me wherever I go." She then thanks Otis for everything.
