The upcoming MCU series Secret Invasion will finally premiere this summer and a lot of fans have been looking forward to seeing what they have in store for Nick Fury's first-ever solo adventure in the franchise. It is also being described as a "crossover event" since it will also feature various characters from past MCU films.
The series is also an opportunity for Samuel L. Jackson to finally take the spotlight after being a supporting character in the franchise ever since the first Iron Man film in 2008 and fans and audience will get a deeper look at the former S.H.I.E.L.D. director aside from being a powerful figure.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Jackson discussed his character's storyline in the series where he revealed that the deaths of Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff have affected him and he is still reeling from the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame.
"Even Nick Fury can be shaken, you know? He’s up there trying to process what the fuck happened, you know? And what his place in the world is.The death of Iron Man, the death of Black Widow, with that stuff going on he just kind of checked out," he said.
The Oscar-nominated actor also explained why his character is not wearing his signature patch when we initially see him in the series and how it represents the vulnerability that he is feeling.
Jackson added, "He just doesn’t wear the patch. The patch is part of who the strong Nick Fury was. It’s part of his vulnerability now. You can look at it and see he’s not this perfectly indestructible person. He doesn’t feel like that guy."
Based on his comments, it sounds like we will be seeing a lot of major changes in Nick Fury in the upcoming series and it is something that we've never seen from the character before. Now, it would be curious to see how his vulnerability will play out when he goes on a mission during the course of the series.
