The new Scott Pilgrim anime was released just a few weeks ago, and it has gotten a lot of praise from critics and fans alike. Now, Netflix shared a new behind-the-scenes video at Science SARU, which reveals how its showrunners and the studio created the new Scott Pilgrim anime.

This video comes at the perfect time as Science SARU has been getting a lot of attention recently, especially with the reveal of the studio handling the Dandadan anime.

Founded by Masaaki Yuasa and Eunyoung Choi, Science SARU has become one of the most well-known anime studios. This is thanks to its distinct animation style in films like Inu-Oh and shows such as Devilman Crybaby.

The studio has been noted for its unique blend of digital and hand-drawn animation.

What’s more, the studio has lots of international staff members, not to mention that it has worked on international titles like Star Wars and Adventure Time.

Thus, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is the perfect anime for Science SARU, especially as it’s an American-Japanese co-production that combines elements from both countries in terms of style.

Netflix’s new BTS video for the series also revealed an interesting fact. Unlike typical anime where voice recordings are done later in the production, Scott Pilgrim did the dubbing first.

This presented a unique challenge, but the show’s staff members were able to work with this to produce great results.

It was also noted that while the show was an adaptation of creator Bryan Lee O’Malley’s new story and iconic world, it still features the studio’s signature “flavor” and approach.

The behind-the-scenes video also features the show’s co-creators, Bryan Lee O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski. They shared their thoughts on working with such a renowned studio.

O’Malley, in particular, noted that he’s a big fan of the studio, especially the works of Masaaki Yuasa. Grabinski echoed this, mentioning that he loved the Yuasa-directed Adventure Time episode, Food Chain.

Based on this behind-the-scenes look, it’s clear that everyone in the show was passionate about bringing the new Scott Pilgrim story to life.

Thanks to the studio’s impressive work, there’s no doubt that anime fans will be even more keen to see what Science SARU can cook up with Dandadan.

In the meantime, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is now streaming worldwide exclusively on Netflix.
