Scarlett Johansson already had her swan song in the MCU with 2021's Black Widow, which officially marked her last appearance in the franchise. However, she is still involved as a producer in one of the projects in the works at Marvel Studios.

There have been rumors for the past few weeks that the original Avengers cast members including Johansson and Robert Downey Jr., whose respective characters already died in the present-day timeline of the MCU, could potentially return which sparked some excitement amongst fans.

After all, the MCU is currently in the Multiverse Saga and it opens the possibility for Marvel Studios to bring them back in some capacity, especially in Avengers: Secret Wars where the door is open for every Marvel actors to return.

Now, the actress herself has chimed in on the rumor.

In her recent appearance on The Today Show (via Screen Rant), Johansson was asked about the rumors surrounding her MCU return. She responded by joking that she could return if it's in a "zombie film."

When the actress was grilled to confirm or deny her potential return, she answered, "I think it might be... I think it was the end, right? I don't know how you come back from that." She also iterated that her character died for good in Avengers: Endgame.

In another follow-up question, she was asked whether her character could still be revived somehow.

"I would have... it would be a miracle. It would be real Marvel miracle. It would be a marvel. But, you know, who knows? Eh... I'm not sure," Johansson said.

Johansson's response was ambiguous at best since you can interpret the way she answered the question in two ways whether she was dodging and avoid giving the right answer or she just has no idea at all.

Either way, fans will definitely be happy to see her come back in some capacity and perhaps Johansson is open to the idea as well since she loved playing the character and she is still tied with the studio as a producer of one of the projects.

It might take a while before we'll be able to find out the answer, but there is no doubt that it is an exciting prospect since we can see her character again one last time.
