Saoirse Ronan is considered to be one of the best young actresses today as evidenced by the four Oscar nominations that she garnered so far in her career and acclaimed performances throughout the last several years including Lady Bird and Little Women.
She is notably not yet involved in any major franchise and some fans of the actress have been wondering whether she will eventually get cast in a superhero movie or other tentpole properties.
As it turns out, years ago, she was offered to play a major character in the MCU that eventually became a fan-favorite.

Saoirse Ronan Passed on the Offer to Play Yelena Belova in Black Widow
In his recent guest appearance on The Town podcast (via The Direct), Deadline reporter Justin Kroll revealed that Saoirse Ronan passed on an offer from Marvel Studios to play Yelena Belova in Black Widow.
As we all know, Florence Pugh, Ronan's co-star in Little Women, ended up getting the role.
"The Saoirse thing, I’ve heard stuff she’s passed on. She passed on Florence’s role in Black Widow, the sister. Marvel has not been her cup of tea, and she was not interested," Kroll said.
A decade ago, the actress was also reportedly in contention for the role of Wanda Maximoff in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but as we also know now, Elizabeth Olsen eventually got cast.
Looking at the actress' IMDb page in the last few years, it backed Kroll's claim that Ronan is not interested at the moment to star in a superhero movie since she usually stars in a more dramatic/grounded type of project.
Perhaps there might be a time in the future when Ronan will eventually have an interest to join a superhero movie whether it's the MCU or DCU.
There's no argument that Ronan could have done a great job of playing Yelena knowing her talent as an actress, but it still worked out in the end with Pugh as her performance was praised and became a fan-favorite.
Pugh is set to make her next appearance as Yelena Belova in Thunderbolts, which is set to begin production this spring.
