Sam Raimi Shares Disappointing Update with Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man 4

Sam Raimi pioneered the superhero genre back in the 2000s with Tobey Maguire's web-slinging hero, Spider-Man. Impressively, the three installments all had triumphant box office receipts, and a potential fourth film was already being discussed.

However, Sony canceled Maguire's Spider-Man and instead decided to reboot the franchise with Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man.

After almost two decades, Maguire reprised the role of Peter Parker once again in Spider-Man: No Way Home together with Garfield and current Peter Parker Tom Holland to fend off villains across different universes.

Aside from the overwhelming praises of both critics and fans, No Way Home dominated the global box office with a $1.8 billion total grossed and is currently sitting as the sixth highest-grossing film of all time.

The nostalgia that every Marvel fan felt upon the return of two fan-beloved Peter Parkers in No Way Home is certainly unforgettable.

However, fans are now wondering what's next for both actors now that they’re both back in the franchise. Particularly whether the continuation of Andrew's The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and Tobey's Spider-Man 4 are now possible.

In a recent interview with Screenrant, Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man Trilogy director Sam Raimi who's currently promoting his return to the superhero genre with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was asked about the possibility of Spider-Man 4. The director admitted that there is no current development for the film, and also expressed indecision about it.

"I currently don't have any plans to make Spider-Man 4," Raimi said. "And they're so successful with the new Spider-Man series that I don't know if that's gonna happen or not. I haven't pursued that. "

As much as we want to see Tobey Maguire reprise the role of Peter Parker once again in the future MCU projects, it looks very clear that Marvel currently has no plans for any Spider-Man film that includes Maguire.

However, it doesn't mean that the actor will be totally out of the picture, especially now that Sony is currently crafting a bigger Spider-Verse which includes major villains like Morbius, Kraven: The Hunter, Madame Web, and Venom.

With all these villains being developed in the future Spider-Man-related projects, it looks like Holland's Peter Parker needs some ally and that could possibly be where Tobey and Andrew could return as their own version of the web-slinger once again.

For now, we can catch up with Sam Raimi's return to his superhero roots with the highly-anticipated Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, hitting theaters on May 4.
