Previously, the new Rurouni Kenshin was announced to premiere in Summer 2023, but now, the new trailer confirmed its official release date, and it is less than two months away.

Instead of covering the ongoing Hokkaido Arc, this new Rurouni Kenshin show will re-adapt the original manga, making it essentially a reboot of the original anime.

While previews for the anime were already released in the last few months, this latest Rurouni Kenshin trailer has a couple of new scenes, and it also reveals the anime’s July 7 release date.

You can check out the new trailer here:

Specifically, the anime will premiere in Japan on July 7, 2023, at 12:55 AM JST (or July 6 at 11:55 AM EDT / 8:55 AM PDT).

The series will air in Japan on Fuji TV, though there’s no word yet on where the show will be streamed outside Japan.

As for the screenings, the anime is confirmed to get June cinema releases in Japan, the US, France, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and South Korea.

However, there’s no word yet on how many episodes will be shown.

This isn't the first time that an anime series will get a cinema release ahead of its TV premiere. Just recently, the same was done for Demon Slayer and Oshi no Ko.

Rurouni Kenshin is arguably one of the most popular anime and manga titles over the past years, and there’s no doubt that there’s a lot of interest regarding the reboot.

But there are also many people who are calling for fans to not support the new anime because of the issues with series creator Nobuhiro Watsuki.

Back in 2017, Watsuki was charged with possession of child pornography, and he was subsequently fined JPY 200,000 (or around USD 1,500).

While he was given a fine, many anime fans are calling for boycotts of the new anime given Watsuki’s controversy.

Currently, there’s no word yet on when the anime will be released in US cinemas, nor is there info on how many episodes will be aired. Though it’s likely that the first two or three episodes will be screened.
