Ron Howard On The “Chaotic” First Day Shoot Of Solo: A Star Wars Story

There might be a lot of excitement building up over Solo: A Star Wars Story now, but last year there was so much anxiety over the film after Lucasfilm decided to separate ways with original directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

The Star Wars spinoff had been deep into production when the studio decided to fire the filmmakers because of "creative differences." Even though Lucasfilm didn't waste time getting Ron Howard to replace Lord and Miller, fans were still worried that Solo's production woes would mean a troubled film.

Speaking in an interview with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show, Howard opened up about what it was like during his first day on the set of Solo.

"It was chaotic," the director admitted. "I was anxious and pumped up."

The filmmaker went on to describe the first scene he worked on, talking about a complicated action shot which fans might remember from Solo's many trailers.

"I organised this very complicated shot and it took a long time to get it together and the actors were pulling hard to make it happen," Howard said. "Lando flips the blaster to Han and it swings around and the camera move is perfect and it all went beautifully and I felt great about it."

Howard's worked hard on fixing Solo ever since he came aboard and somehow the director's managed to assuage the fanbase's anxiety over the upcoming Star Wars spinoff movie. The trailers helped out a lot too.

Now, Solo is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, beating Black Panther's ticket presales on Fandango. Guess Lucasfilm's decisions are starting to pay off.

Solo: A Star Wars Story premieres May 25.
