It was difficult to watch some of the best players in Squid Game: The Challenge be sent home. Roland (player 418) is the most extroverted and friendliest of the bunch, yet he still lost in the reality show.

As a parkour coach, he was not only physically agile and athletic, but he had a healthy approach to winning the game without stabbing anyone in the back.

He appeared to have been closest to Trey (player 301) and his mom, LeAnn (player 302). However, after losing LeAnn in the Marbles game, Roland turned to Trey and they both became best buds on the show.

Throughout the series, player 418 seemed to be the kind of guy who could be close friends with anyone he interacted with. Even the fans themselves have grown fond of him and rooted for him:

Before heading to the glass bridge game in episode 7, Roland had high hopes that he would win fair and square in Squid Game: The Challenge:

"I definitely feel the money getting closer to me. When we first started this game, it felt like you were holding a lottery ticket, and you were just like, praying that you had the right numbers. At this point, it feels like we've earned something. It feels like we're fighting for something now. It's not just a chance we're taking. It is within reach. At this point, if I lost, it would feel like it was ripped from me. So I will definitely fight against everyone to get to the end."

Things, unfortunately, weren't as smooth sailing for him in the end.

Player 418 only lasted until episode 9 titled "Circle of Trust". In the game, each one of the remaining players is blindfolded.

Once you get tapped by the guard, you have to place the gift box in front of the player you wish to eliminate. The only way out of getting eliminated is by guessing correctly who wanted you out of the game.

In this case, Mai (player 287) was the first to play. However, instead of voting player 278 (Ashley) out, she knew that Ashley would immediately know it was her.

To ensure that Mai wouldn't lose, she placed the box in front of Roland, "I love the guy, but also I have to save myself first."

When Roland was trying to guess who voted for him, Mai was quick to say, "Who's gonna do your hair?" which led 418 to believe he could trust her.

In the end, Roland suspected player 051 (Rose) whom he was not close with, and lost his place in Squid Game: The Challenge.
