In Matt Reeve’s new revival of the classic caped DC superhero, The Batman is coming very soon and Pattinson describes the film as ‘batman leans into his nihilistic side.’ The actor explained his portrayal multiple times in different interviews that his portrayal of Batman is going to be really different. He explained in a GQ interview, “Even the artwork is really, really different, So, hopefully, there are a lot of sad people in the world.”

As The Batman’s timeline follows Wayne’s early career as a billionaire, the idea of being a playboy has not yet surfaced and that explained instead that he will be playing a ‘very sad’ version of the DC hero. He also added that the billionaire’s idea of taking the Batman mantle to fight criminals is comparable to ‘a drug addiction.’ Basically, Bruce Wayne in the upcoming Batman movie is going to be a piece of work and not the perfect crime-fighting billionaire from the previous franchise.

"I've definitely found a little interesting thread. He doesn't have a playboy persona at all, so he's kind of a weirdo as Bruce and a weirdo as Batman, and I kept thinking there's a more nihilistic slant to it. 'Cause, normally, in all the other movies, Bruce goes away, trains, and returns to Gotham believing in himself, thinking, I'm gonna change things here. But in this, it's sort of implied that he's had a bit of a breakdown.”

The actor continued to Wayne’s motivation is deeply rooted in his family’s legacy, 'This is my family legacy. If I don't do this, then there's nothing else for me.' I always read that as not like, 'There's nothing else,' like, 'I don't have a purpose.' But like: 'I'm checking out,'" Pattinson shared. "And I think that makes it a lot sadder. Like, it's a sad movie. It's kind of about him trying to find some element of hope, in himself, and not just the city. Normally, Bruce never questions his own ability; he questions the city's ability to change. But I mean, it's kind of such an insane thing to do: The only way I can live is to dress up as a bat." Pattinson added.

Pattinson’s take on the role will be very different compared to the other Batman franchise we saw but his dramatic and emo style has been praised after starring in The Lighthouse film with Willem Dafoe. The actor has shown a very different side of him that definitely distinguished him as a good actor.

The Batman is rumored to have almost 3 hours of runtime and Pattinson will be joined by Zoë Kravitz, who will play as the Catwoman.

The Batman will premier in theaters on March 4, 2022.
