Robert Downey Jr. was crowned the Best Supporting Actor winner for his portrayal of Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer during the recent 96th Academy Awards.

It was his third Oscar nomination in his decades-long career. He was previously nominated for his performances in Chaplin and Tropic Thunder.

Before Downey was named as the winner, five past Supporting Actor winners paid tribute to the nominees and made remarks on their performances in their respective films.

To the delight of many MCU fans, Sam Rockwell, who played Justin Hammer in Iron Man 2, was the one who spoke about Downey in the presentation.

In his speech, Downey first jokingly gave a shoutout to his "terrible childhood" and then thanked The Academy, his wife Susan, Nolan, and the cast and crew of Oppenheimer.

A lot of MCU fans celebrated the actor's first-ever Oscar win of his career and also noticed the Iron Man 2 reunion during the presentation of the category.

Downey notoriously had a lot of ups and downs in his acting career. His turn as Tony Stark in the MCU turned him into a major A-list movie star and established his career renaissance.

Now, with his Oscar win, he has cemented himself as one of the great actors of his generation and ended the long road of taking home the gold.
