Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse failed to win its only Oscar nomination and fans are not happy about the loss.

The acclaimed sequel was in contention in the Best Animated Feature Film category during the recent 96th Academy Awards ceremony. However, Hayao Miyazaki's The Boy and the Heron ended up prevailing.

Throughout the awards season, the film was considered one of the frontrunners in the category and pundits call it a neck-and-neck battle with the Miyazaki movie.

Earlier in the 96th Academy Awards ceremony, Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy presented the Best Animated Feature Film category and announced The Boy and the Heron as the winner.

However, Miyazaki and the film's producer Toshio Suzuki were not present in the ceremony.

Right after the category was presented, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse co-producer and co-writer Christopher Miller reacted to their Oscar loss in a post on X.

"Well, if you’re gonna lose, might as well lose to the GOAT," he said.

However, a lot of fans were not happy with the film's Oscar loss as they believed that it was more deserving of the win than the Miyazaki film.

Here are some of the sentiments that they posted on X:

Shameik Moore, who voiced Miles Morales, also shared his reaction to the film's Oscar loss in a series of posts on X.

First, he responded with one word: "Robbed."

Moore went on to write a follow-up post where he showed his respect to the winner, highlighted the film's impact on the audience, and hyped up the third movie.

"Respect to the winners. It’s true, I’m definitely a sore loser, but we didn’t lose, Spiderverse has impacted ALOT of lives, we may not have been acknowledged tonight but life goes on, and BEYOND….. yea get ready," he wrote.

In the end, whether they took home a trophy or not, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is still a major success both critically and financially and is considered to be a major achievement in animation.

Perhaps The Academy will reward the franchise again in Beyond the Spider-Verse which is another chance for the filmmakers to win another Oscar.
