Riz Ahmed Thinks A South Asian Woman Should Script Ms. Marvel

Riz Ahmed had recently been making some buzz on Twitter by pitching that he write the script for Ms. Marvel along with Mindy Kaling and Kumail Nanjiani. As it turns out, he was just trying to get some more attention to the project. Who he really wants working on the script is a South Asian woman.

Talking to Yahoo! Entertainment, Ahmed explained:

"I think there are much better qualified people to write the better Ms. Marvel movie than myself, and specifically I think it should be led by women — South Asian women."

In case you didn't know, Marvel's current iteration of Ms. Marvel is Kamala Khan, and she's a 16-year-old Pakistani American girl from New Jersey who gets size-altering powers and becomes a superhero. Kamala has been a celebrated character since her arrival, and people think that she gives good representation for young women and Muslim Americans.

Ahmed continues:

"It should really be led by women of color and Muslim women to tell that story … My tweet there was really just an attempt to shine a little bit of light on this project and just to let people know that there's a lot of anticipation around this character as we enter a time when we're looking to superheroes to give us the heroes that we might lack in real life."

For now, we still have no solid news on when we're going to get Kamala Khan in the MCU, but Kevin Feige has confirmed that they are planning her introduction somewhere down the line.

I think Kamala is actually a pretty fun character, and with her age in the comics, some think it would have been perfect if she was introduced as a classmate of Tom Holland's Peter Parker. Hopefully we get to see a team-up between the two sometime in the future.

A Ms. Marvel movie or TV series has not been officially announced.
