It's still a long wait for Percy Jackson and The Olympians but Rick Riordan has something to make the wait a lot easier. The author has revealed new details about his upcoming book Percy Jackson and The Chalice of the Gods which follows the titular demi-god as he prepares for college.
Rick Riordan Shares Update on Sixth Percy Jackson Book
Back in October 2022, Rick Riordan announced that he is writing a sixth Percy Jackson book which will serve as a standalone novel. Percy Jackson and The Chalice of the Gods would also be the first time fans caught up with Percy since the events in 2009's The Last Olympian.
Not surprisingly, Rick Riordan admitted that he had to get used to writing about Percy all over again.
"I was a little anxious about going back to Percy’s voice because it has been quite a while since I’ve written a novel from Percy’s point of view," Riordan told The Hollywood Reporter.
"But it was sort of like putting on a comfortable pair of jeans," he continued. "It was very, very familiar to me."
"It’s never easy writing a book, but it was much easier than I thought it was going to be," Riordan added.
"I enjoyed it, especially because I had been adapting The Lightning Thief, as you know, for the television series, and I had been getting back into the roots of Percy Jackson and kind of breaking it apart and looking at the components and kind of reminding myself how I wrote this story to begin with," he said. "The timing was really good."
Percy Jackson and The Chalice of the Gods will revisit Percy, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood as they take on a new mission for a recommendation letter for New Rome University.
The Chalice of the Gods will be released on September 26, 2023. The live-action Percy Jackson and The Olympians series will premiere on Disney+ in 2024. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
