Renowned Comic Book Artist Howard Chaykin is Distancing Himself from Star Wars

Howard Chaykin is a legendary comic book artist, who has worked on numerous comics like American Flagg, Batman, Hawkgirl, Avengers 1959, and so much more. However, a lot of fans like to bring up how he drew the original Star Wars comic books from Marvel, which supposedly made him the star he is today. This has been something Chaykin hasn't liked for the longest time and he has announced that he does not want to be associated with the Star Wars brand anymore.

Funnily enough, Chaykin does not mention the name of this franchise in his lengthy rant on Facebook. However, with statements like the one below, it seems pretty obvious.

"If you're inviting me to your show because of hackwork that runs the gamut in only a few issues from indifferent to dreadful, work I produced over forty years ago, in the service of what turned out, to my surprise, to be a billion-dollar brand, producing a string of comics that were part and parcel of the salvation of the company for which it was produced that has profited me no more than the paltry page rate of the time."

Considering the number of comics he has released since then, it's hard to blame him for feeling this way. It's clear that Chaykin has his own legacy and should not be known as an artist who worked on Star Wars. Granted, Marvel has reprinted his work numerous times in recent years, but hardcore comic book fans should probably check out his indie work.

Marvel has a number of Star Wars comics you can check out on comic book stores and other retailers. They probably sell some of Chaykin's comics as well, so check them out.
