After the rest of the team is seemingly convinced that they can't tell the two Jean Greys apart, the Jean Grey we've been following since the beginning of the series locks herself in their bedroom to take care of their kid, instead.

Despite Scott's attempt to ease Jean into thinking it would be best if he handled their baby, Jean insisted that she had him safe in her arms. Unfortunately, this doesn't last long as Mr. Sinister unveils a shocking twist.

Mr. Sinister begins talking to Jean through the baby monitor, where he claims his identity to be Jean Grey's "father." So, what was that about?

As it turns out, the red stone came from Mr. Sinister himself. As seen in the flashback, Mr. Sinister intentionally created a clone of the "original" Jean Grey for his own purpose.

"That's why I made you, baked you," Mr. Sinister explains, "Every cell in you belongs to me. Your mind, your body. You have no choice."

That purpose is to, as Jean realized, "use our genes to create Nathan Summers." In this sense, not only will Mr. Sinister get to manipulate Nathan's potential powers, but he also gets to control Jean Grey into coming to his side.

The "Jean Grey" who possesses the red stone ends up using her powers to transform into a villain who calls herself "Goblin Queen" and tears the X-Men apart in their own mansion with ease.

Episode 3 highlights how powerful an opponent Jean Grey would have been if she was not a part of the mutant family.

The only thing that broke her from the curse of Mr. Sinister's control was when the other Jean Grey made her realize they are both Jean Grey and that their experiences and memories just happen to be different.
