Thanks to the most recent Nintendo Direct, we finally know a lot about Pokemon Sword and Shield. Let's get the most important detail out of the way first; Sword and Shield will come to Nintendo Switch on November 15, once again making its regular fall release date. Now we go to the fun part as Sword and Shield introduce a ton of gameplay features that are new to the mainline games.

As the trailers show, there are now wandering Pokemon in the game's wild areas, though there will still be a couple of random ones in the grassy areas of towns. It was a fan-favorite feature when it was introduced in Pokemon Let's Go! Pikachu and Let's Go! Eevee so the fact that Game Freak brought it to a mainline game has fans celebrating.

For a much newer (and weirder) new feature, we now have a new battle mechanic called Dynamax. This feature turns your Pokemon into a Kaiju-sized monstrosity so that you can get a huge edge in battles. It can only be used once per battle and is only active for three so players should use this new feature wisely.

Borrowing something from Pokemon GO, Sword and Shield have added multiplayer Raid Battles. This allows players to form a team of four and take on a Dynamax Pokemon. During the Raid Battles, only one player from the team can use Dynamax so coordinate with each other. These Raid Battles can be accessed via local wifi when four players with their own Nintendo Switches are together, and Nintendo Online when they just want to be at home.

Pokemon Sword and Shield come out on November 15.
