PHOENIX: EDEN17 Trailer

With the show’s release just a bit over a week away, Disney+ finally shared a full trailer for PHOENIX: EDEN17, the upcoming anime that’s based on a work by Osamu Tezuka, the Father of Manga.

While the anime has been known for a while and already has a couple of teasers, this new trailer is the longest one yet, giving anime fans the best preview of what to expect.

Even without this trailer though, PHOENIX: EDEN17 is shaping up to be a must-see, especially for anime watchers looking to watch something quite different from the typical seasonal fare.

Osamu Tezuka needs no introduction as he is the pioneer of the entire manga medium, though he is perhaps best known for his globally popular series Astro Boy (or Mighty Atom in Japan).

Tezuka’s other works include Princess Knight and Kimba the White Lion. He also has more mature and experimental works, including Phoenix, which is a fantasy drama set in multiple eras.

While the series is unfinished, it has gotten several anime adaptations over the years. The latest is an upcoming anime by Studio 4°C, the studio behind Berserk: The Golden Age Arc.

Titled PHOENIX: EDEN17, this upcoming series will adapt several stories from the original manga, all of which are tied together by the immortal Phoenix.

Interestingly, this anime does not feature well-known voice actors as practically all its main cast members are new to anime voice acting.

PHOENIX: EDEN17 is licensed by Disney+, making it the latest anime that will be exclusive to the streaming giant. Other exclusives include Tokyo Revengers Season 2 and Heavenly Delusion.

Given that the show’s release is just a bit over a week away, Disney+ has been ramping up promotion for it, at least in Japan.

Recently, the new trailer was shared on the official Disney+ Japan pages, and it features lots of new footage. Check it out here:

This Phoenix adaptation will be released exclusively on Disney+ on September 13, 2023. It will be available in most of the world, except in Mainland China.

Meanwhile, a movie version with a different ending, titled Phoenix: Reminiscence of Flower, will be released in Japan in November this year.

However, there’s no word yet on international release plans for the film version.
