Following its announcement late last year, Studio 4°C shared a new trailer for the Phoenix: Eden17 anime that revealed the show’s September release date.
This upcoming anime is an adaptation of legendary manga artist Osamu Tezuka’s Phoenix manga, and it is also part of the Disney+ original anime lineup for 2023.
Though Phoenix might not be his most popular work, the fact that a classic Tezuka manga will be animated should pique the interest of many anime fans.
Osamu Tezuka’s Classic Manga Is Getting a New Anime
Osamu Tezuka is no doubt one of the most iconic figures in the manga industry. After all, he innovated and helped popularize the medium, earning him the title of “The Father of Manga.”
Tezuka’s most popular series is no doubt Astro Boy (or Mighty Atom in Japan), the iconic manga that inspired several anime adaptations that have become big hits all over the world.
Aside from Astro Boy, Tezuka is also best known for titles like Princess Knight and Kimba the White Lion. Though his ambitious and unfinished series titled Phoenix is the next one to get the anime treatment.
But this isn’t the first time that Phoenix will be animated. For instance, there’s the Phoenix 2772 anime film which was loosely based on the manga. Then there’s the 2004 TV anime by Tezuka Productions.
Now, Phoenix is once again inspiring a new anime, but this time by Studio 4°C, the anime studio behind the Berserk: Golden Age Arc anime.
Interestingly, aside from an anime series that will stream on Disney+, the studio will also release a feature film version of Phoenix: Eden17 that will screen in Japanese cinemas this November.

Phoenix: Eden17 Anime Trailer Reveals September Disney+ Release
As the anime’s release inches ever closer, Studio 4°C shared a new trailer for its upcoming anime that also revealed its global streaming release date.
Although this new trailer is only around 30 seconds long, it does give anime fans a good look at what to expect, including the colorful visuals that the show will have. Check it out here:
Phoenix: Eden17 will stream globally on Disney+ beginning September 13, 2023 (where the platform's service is available).
Meanwhile, it’s also confirmed that the anime will get a movie version titled Phoenix: Reminiscence of Flower, which will have a different ending.
The said film will be released in Japanese cinemas on November 3, 2023.
