You may not need much persuading to watch the Netflix adaptation of the Jane Austen classic, Persuasion.

Persuasion is a timeless tale about love, destiny, and how the heart wants who the heart wants. There have been many adaptations of the novel, including a 1995 version by BBC, a 2007 movie version that was made to air on the TV, and a five-part mini-series released in 1971. Persuasion is one of the six major masterpieces released by Jane Austen, an English novelist who lived during the Regency period. Her works often revolved around a woman’s dependency on marriage. She is also most noted for her rather modern take on the everyday lives of normal people who face conflicts about love, family, economy, and the many trappings of English society.

Jane Austen is probably most famous for her novel Pride and Prejudice. The novel was adapted into a film in 2005, starring Kiera Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen, which may be the most well-known film version of the story. Some of Austen’s other novels have also been adapted into films, such as Sense and Sensibility and, more recently, Emma.

In 2022, Netflix is offering its own take on another of Austen’s classics - here is everything we know about Persuasion.

Persuasion Plot: What Will be the Plot of the Modern Adaptation of the Classic Novel?

Persuasion is based on the hit classic novel by Jane Austen. Originally released on December 20, 1817, the story follows quiet and caring Anne Elliot. Anne is a 27-year-old unmarried woman who lives and breathes for her family. She was engaged to Captain Frederick Wentworth, but she broke off the engagement after her snobby family persuaded her. Now, seven years after ending their engagement, Captain Wentworth is back in town, but a new suitor is declaring his intentions for Anne.

Here is the official synopsis for the 2022 film adaptation of Persuasion.

Living with her snobby family on the brink of bankruptcy, Anne Elliot is an unconforming woman with modern sensibilities. When Frederick Wentworth (Jarvis) — the dashing one she let get away — crashes back into her life, Anne must choose between putting the past behind her or listening to her heart when it comes to second chances.

Persuasion is the favorite novel of so many Jane Austen fans who related a lot to the sensibilities of the main character, Anne. There is a lot at stake, for this is Netflix’s first attempt to adapt a classic. The streaming site had quite a success with its contemporary take on the Regency era through Bridgerton, but will modernization allow them to stay true to the essence of the novel? We could only wait to find out if Persuasion would persuade us enough.
