Patrick Stewart is Coming Back as Jean-Luc Picard in New Star Trek Series

Patrick Stewart's Jean-Luc Picard remains to be one of the more fan-favorite captains in any Star Trek show, but news has it that the character is officially returning onscreen, with Stewart onboard for the ride.

Check out his post:

We still don't have any more details on the new show, but it's said to be coming from Alex Kurtzman who had this to say about Stewart's return (via Variety):

"With overwhelming joy, it's a privilege to welcome Sir Patrick Stewart back to the ‘Star Trek' fold… For over 20 years, fans have hoped for the return of Captain Jean-Luc Picard and that day is finally here. We can't wait to forge new ground, surprise people, and honor generations both new and old."

With Picard coming back, I won't be surprised to hear that any of Stewart's TNG co-stars will be making a return as well. Then again, I have a feeling that this new show will have Picard take more of a backseat and will be ‘passing the torch' to younger characters.

Of course, I could be wrong.

For now, CBS is currently working on the second season of Star Trek: Discovery which promises to bring in a new version of fan favorite character Spock. Spock hadn't showed up at all in the first season, but his shadow has been looming over the series, granted that lead character Michael Burnham is his adopted sister.

No release date has been set for Stewart's new Star Trek series. Star Trek: Discovery 2 is aiming for a release early 2019.
