Oshi no Ko's Opening Is Already Being Called OP of the Year

Oshi no Ko has made a huge splash with its first episode, with lots of fans sharing their reactions online. Though aside from the shocking ending, the Oshi no Ko opening song is also being praised as the OP of the year.

The 90-minute Oshi no Ko first episode aired yesterday, and with it came the release of its opening song Idol by the popular Japanese music duo, YOASOBI.

Oshi no Ko’s Opening Music Video Gets 2 Million Views in One Day

While the opening has been announced previously, we’ve only heard snippets of it ahead of the show’s premiere.

Now that Oshi no Ko has begun its broadcast, fans were finally able to hear the new opening.

Lots of fans quickly showered the opening with praise, with many complimenting both the song and the visuals.

The excitement for the new opening was big enough that YOASOBI’s official music video for the song reached 2 million views in just under a day.

YOASOBI is easily one of the most popular music groups in Japan right now, with the duo’s popularity exploding in 2020.

Since then, YOASOBI has been tapped to perform songs for various anime such as Beastars Season 2.

During the Fall 22 season, YOASOBI also made waves with their song The Blessing for Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury.

The Deeper Meaning of Oshi no Ko’s Opening

Lots of the positive reactions to the opening were about how well it captures the vibe of Oshi no Ko.

While it has some upbeat elements that represent the show’s idol elements, it also has a dark undercurrent like the anime.

Fans also noted that the last lines of the lyrics are Ai’s last words to Aqua and Ruby, adding even more depth to the song.

Because of these, the Oshi no Ko opening is already being called the opening song of the year by some anime fans.

While it might be too early to proclaim that, it is fair to call it one of the best OPs of 2023 so far.

Oshi no Ko continues with Episode 2 which will be released next week. But unlike the first, Episode 2 will have a standard 20-minute runtime.
