We're finally learning new things about the highly anticipated Orphan Black spin-off Orphan Black: Echoes. But just how different is the new show from the original series? Original show co-creator John Fawcett has shared new details about the Krysten Ritter-led series, confirming that Echoes is not just another clone.
Last year, it was officially confirmed that Orphan Black is getting a spin-off show with Krysten Ritter taking on the lead role. Although the new series is expected to be different from the original show, people still believe that Orphan Black: Echoes will feature more clones like the ones played by Tatiana Maslany.
So is Echoes just another Orphan Black clone? John Fawcett, who co-created the original series, confirmed that although it is set in the same universe, Echoes is not the same as its predecessor.
"The spin-off is a very different show. If you go with the expectation that you're going to see Orphan Black, you're going to probably be disappointed," Fawcett told RadioTimes. "It's got its own feel, it's got its own identity. What makes it Orphan Black, there's a bit of a slow burn to it. I think it'll be exciting for fans to discover."
He continued by pointing out that they have no intention of trying to outdo Tatiana Maslany's work in the original series.
"No one can do better than Tatiana. You're setting the bar very high," Fawcett said. "When we were talking about what the spin-off would be, it was like, well, let's come up with a concept that works in the Orphan Black world but isn't necessarily just an Orphan Black – a clone of Orphan Black, so to speak."
It's certainly an interesting tease at what to expect in the upcoming series. With that in mind, we can't wait to see what Orphan Black: Echoes is all about.
