As the anime’s release inches closer, the upcoming drift racing anime MF Ghost revealed new voice cast members featuring two returning VAs from Initial D.

This is significant as MF Ghost is the sequel to Shuichi Shigeno’s iconic manga and anime series, and it confirms the return of two characters.

It has been nine years now since the last Initial D anime aired, so this upcoming sequel is a show that many fans of the late 90s classic are excited for.

Calling Initial D an influential series might be an understatement as the series was a huge part in making drifting and Japanese cars become popular all over the world.

Thanks to the series, the Toyota Sprinter Trueno (or the AE86) has become a global icon among gearheads.

Interestingly, while the series has become synonymous with the boom in drifting and interest in Japanese car culture from the late 90s to the early 2000s, the Initial D manga only ended in 2013.

Three years after the manga’s end, creator Shuichi Shigeno began MF Ghost, a sequel to his hit drifting anime which is still serialized now in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine.

This series is set years after Initial D, and it follows Kanata, a rookie street racer who participates in races organized by MFG, a company founded by Ryosuke Takahashi.

MF Ghost has been ongoing for nearly six years now, and finally, it is getting an anime adaptation from studio Felix Film.
