Oreo, the Raccoon That Inspired Guardians of the Galaxy's Rocket, Has Passed Away

Sad news today Marvel fans as Oreo, the real-life raccoon that Rocket is based on, has passed away. Fans of Guardians of the Galaxy were quite fond of the animal since it had a presence on social media and some of the film's screenings. Considering the impact Rocket has had in the MCU thus far, him being one of the group's surviving members in Avengers: Endgame, it's really sad knowing Oreo won't be around for future screenings of the movie.

The news was announced by Quinta Layla on Facebook, the woman who took care of the raccoon. She revealed that Oreo had been sick for some time and passed away recently. While a number of vets did try to save Oreo's life, it didn't work out and we're now minus one of the cutest animals the world has ever known.

Many fans associated Oreo with Rocket a lot since you can clearly see the resemblance. James Gunn, the director of both Guardians films, brought Oreo to some of the screenings and many of us found him adorable. Expect a lot of fans to pay tribute to the animal since Bradley Cooper's Rocket would be nothing if we didn't have that animal to base it on.

Rest in peace Oreo.
