While One Piece is no doubt one of their favorites, the cast of Netflix’s live-action One Piece series was recently asked about their favorite anime, and Nami actress Emily Rudd had probably the most surprising answer.

The upcoming live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s iconic manga has been known for years now, but it was only recently that fans got their first look at the show via its trailer at TUDUM.

Along with the trailer, the main cast of the series also did a quick press tour while at the TUDUM fan event.

There, the five Straw Hat members showed the chemistry that they built during the show’s production.

Netflix and Oda initially announced the One Piece live-action series way back in early 2020. Though it was only in 2022 that the show started filming.

Earlier this year, Netflix shared teaser posters for the series. And this month at TUDUM in Brazil, Netflix finally unveiled the trailer which showed the cast in action.

It has been nearly two weeks now since TUDUM, but the promotion for the show continues as fans have been treated to some interviews during the quick press tour at the event.

For starters, Netflix shared a fun video featuring the five Straw Hat actors as they try out different snacks from the USA, Japan, and Mexico.

Then, Collider shared an interview with the cast where they talked about their favorite anime, aside from One Piece.

What got a lot of attention at first was Luffy actor Iñaki Godoy’s answer as he mentioned his rather unpopular opinion on Chainsaw Man.

Meanwhile, other cast members had some nice answers. For instance, Mackenyu (Zoro) said that his favorite anime is Hunter x Hunter. Then, Taz Skylar (Sanji) chimed and mentioned Trigun.

When Emily Rudd (Nami) was asked, she mentioned that her favorite anime is Made in Abyss -- no doubt an unexpected answer given that the series is fairly niche, especially when compared to big shonen hits.

Rudd also mentioned that she enjoys mainstream titles like Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Tokyo Ghoul. Though in the video’s comments and on Twitter, her Made in Abyss shoutout got the most attention.

The One Piece live-action series will be released exclusively on Netflix on August 31, 2023.
