Here’s What Happened Before One Piece Chapter 1088
The title of One Piece Chapter 1087 is Battleship Bags, and it features Ace heating up a bath for some capybara on the cover.
The chapter begins at Marine Branch G1’s Ship Scrapyard, where Brannew shows the ruins of two huge battleships to Jango and Fulibody.
Brannew explains that the ship's armored hulls have caved in with Garp and Aokiji’s punches.
The rules were that no Haki or devil fruit abilities were allowed while working on the battleship bags, which just goes to show that no one’s born a hero because it’s a strength everyone has to earn.
Meanwhile, in Hachinosu (The Pirate Island), New World, San Juan Wolf’s life is in danger after Garp sent him flying straight to the sea.
As Blackbeard’s men try to help him out, Vasco Shot attacks Garp with a technique called "Heavy Drinker Hearth Fire".
Garp blocks the attack by using three of Blackbeard’s men as shields. He throws the burning bodies into the town, calling them "Pirate Fireballs".
As this happens, the ship carrying SWORD’s members and the escaped prisoners is already off the coast of Hachinosu.
They are setting sail, but Garp, Helmeppo, Koby, and Grus are still in the middle of fighting the pirates on the island.
Garp says that it’s time for them to go, but Kuzan still wants to go on with their fight. Because of this, Garp orders Helmeppo, Koby, and Grus to head straight to the coast and take care of themselves.
That’s when Koby sees a female hostage whom he tries to save, only to fall into an unfortunate trap!
All of a sudden, Shiryu (in invisible form) tries to stab Koby, but Garp pushes him away in the last second, allowing his body to be stabbed instead, much to everyone’s surprise.
Afterward, Garp dumps Shiryu’s wounded body on the ground. Koby blames himself for Garp’s injuries, but Garp says not to flatter himself since he was in Shiryu’s sights the whole time.
He still pushes Koby and the others to escape, but they don’t want to leave him behind given his condition.
The other Blackbeard pirates rejoiced at seeing the weakened state of Iron Garp. They start charging toward Garp in the belief that they might be able to take him out if they grab this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Killing Garp will be an instant ticket to wealth and glory, given his three-grown bounty, similar to that of an Admiral.
But Kuzan beats them to it, saying that they wouldn’t stand a chance against Garp even if they bound both of his arms and legs. Kuzan charges toward Garp, and he uses an attack called Ice Glove.
In a flashback, Kuzan recalls the time when he asked Garp to take him in as his disciple.
At first, Garp declined his favor, but eventually, he caved in. They started training together, punching the battleship bags without the use of haki or any other devil fruit ability.
Garp rants, sharing how his son became a part of the Revolutionary Army, while his grandson wants to become a pirate, even though he doesn’t agree to it.
At some point, Kuzan also remembers the time when Garp pestered him to go get a bite, even after he became a busy admiral.
Back in the present, Kuzan remarks that Garp has a habit of raising enemies. They started punching each other’s faces with Haki, creating a huge explosion that sent the two of them flying, much to Koby’s concern.
Suddenly, Avalo Pizarro, the fourth captain of the Blackbeard Pirates, brings two humongous arms from Pirate Island to crush Garp’s ship.
He mocks Garp and his comrades, saying that tomorrow’s headlines will talk about their failure to save Koby.
Before the chapter ends, Garp advises Koby not to lose his head in the fight, since justice will prevail!
