Once Upon A Deadpool might be filled with hilarious antics bordering on brassy but the filmmakers behind the PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 sure know how to tune things down to pay tribute to Marvel's cameo king, Stan Lee.
There was so much heartache over the Marvel comic book legend's passing last month, and fans have been looking forward to Lee's cameos in future films like Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Once Upon A Deadpool.
While the original Deadpool 2 didn't have a cameo featuring Lee in the flesh, Stan the Man's face was shown in a graffiti piece on the side of a building featured during the X-Force sequence of the movie. In Once Upon a Deadpool (via Screen Rant), the PG-13 version of the film, the art piece is updated with a "RIP," commemorating Lee's passing.
It's a lovely little tribute, but not as hard-hitting as what the filmmakers have prepared during the film's post-credits sequence. While most of the clips in Once Upon A Deadpool's many post-credit sequences feature antics between Ryan Reynold's Merc with a Mouth and Fred Savage, the final one serves as a heart-breaking tribute to Stan the Man.
Littered with outtakes of the comic book legend's cameo from Logan's teaser of Deadpool 2, the post-credits sequence hits fans hard when it gets to an interview clip with Lee. In the clip, the cameo king talks about how humbled he is by his success, saying that he doesn't really care about what happens after his death because he already has the love of his fans.
Honestly, it makes me cry just thinking about it.
Not only was Lee a pop culture icon, but he was a genuinely friendly man, treating his fans kindly and showering them with affection during his appearances at conventions and panels. Stan the Man will always be missed.
