The Odd Taxi anime continues to be a one-off show, but fans do have a new project to look forward to. Recently, it was revealed that the Odd Taxi spinoff manga titled Route of Odd Taxi will be getting a Japanese live-action adaptation.

Details about this upcoming live-action show were shared on the series’ official X (formerly Twitter) account. Along with the release window, a key visual for it was also shared, which features its two main stars.

This is the latest project related to Odd Taxi, meaning the series is quickly becoming a notable media franchise.

Odd Taxi is an anime by OLM, the studio behind many Pokemon anime as well as the recent popular series, The Apothecary Diaries. Unlike most of the studio’s shows though, Odd Taxi is an original series.

Before the anime aired in April 2021 though, a manga version began serialization in January 2021.

The manga ran from January 2021 to July 2022. Meanwhile, the anime series only got 13 episodes and aired only until June 2021.

Despite the series’ great critical reception, it has not been renewed for a second season. This makes sense though considering how the story ended.

Even with no new season, Odd Taxi fans have been treated to a variety of projects. First, there’s the In the Woods film, which is an updated compilation movie based on the anime series.

Then there’s the manga spinoff titled RoOT or Route of Odd Taxi, which began serialization in February 2023.

Route of Odd Taxi Live-Action Adaptation in the Works

With the RoOT spinoff continuing to get new chapters, TV Tokyo announced a live-action adaptation of the manga. This new series will star Yuumi Kawai and Ryota Bando as the main characters.

Interestingly, this manga spinoff is the one to get a live-action show instead of the original Odd Taxi series.

Considering the original’s anthropomorphic animal cast though, it makes sense why RoOT was the one to get a live-action show. After all, this manga stars human characters instead of animals.

The Route of Odd Taxi live-action series will air on TV Tokyo in Japan in April 2024. For now, there’s no official release date yet for its first episode.

There’s also no word on international release plans for the show. Considering that live-action TV dramas like Ya Boy Kongming! haven’t gotten English releases, chances are that this one won’t either.
