Nyle DiMarco Wants MCU's Hawkeye to be Deaf, Like in The Comics

Even with a number of acclaimed films, the MCU has still been criticized for its lack of diversity. While improvements have been made with Black Panther getting a solo film and Captain Marvel being Carol Danvers instead of Mar-Vell, the lack of LGBT and more colored characters shows that they have a long way to go.

However, there are other forms of diversity that the studio can implement in their films. This is why Nyle DiMarco is hoping that Marvel Studios makes Hawkeye deaf or partially deaf in the future. Before you start complaining about forced diversity, keep in mind that Hawkeye actually is partially deaf in the comic books.

DiMarco has pointed out that diversity isn't just skin color or sexual identity but disabilities as well. He pointed out how Hawkeye is deaf in the comics (partially anyway) and how upsetting it was to have him be of normal hearing in the MCU.

Admittedly, this isn't just the studio's fault. Sometimes, comic creators forget that Clint Barton is partially deaf. Writers like Jim McCann, Matt Fraction, and Gerry Duggan have made sure to bring it up regularly but others simply forget.

In all honesty, characters shouldn't be required to have a certain skin color, sexual identity, or disability to be relatable. That being said, it wouldn't hurt to do this since the comics are filled with beautiful, supermodel-like characters who don't always have these flaws. Hawkeye does have partial deafness though and Marvel may want to bring that up.

Jeremy Renner is set to return as Hawkeye/Ronin in Avengers 4, which comes out on May 3, 2019.
