New Still from X-Men: Dark Phoenix Features Cyclops, Storm, and Nightcrawler

X-Men: Dark Phoenix was originally meant to come out last month, but seeing as the movie had to undergo extensive reshoots, the film was pushed back to June of next year. Promotion for the film has gotten really slow, and we have a new still of Professor X, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, and Storm.

It's said that the main premise of the film will deal with Jean after a space mission suddenly unlocks the Phoenix that was resting dormant inside her—thanks to a one Charles Xavier. Director Simon Kinberg tells Empire about the film:

"Charles has been hiding secrets about Jean's past from her that get revealed over the span of the movie, and only make her more unstable"

It's the most inopportune time for this character to become unstable emotionally because she's becoming unstable in a much different way after this cosmic thing that happened to her in space."

With Disney's acquisition of Fox set to finalize early next year, a lot of people are expecting this film to finally end the X-franchise that Bryan Singer kicked off with the first X-Men back in 2000. At this point, the timeline has so many inconsistencies that it would just be better for Fox to end it before it gets any worse.

Personally, I'm more excited to see how Marvel Studios will bring these characters to the MCU. Will mutants have existed this whole time? Will there be some kind of rift in time that messes with the current MCU timetable? All I know is, Marvel did such a great job revamping Spider-Man for Homecoming, I wish they did the same with the X-Men.

Catch Dark Phoenix in theaters June 7, 2019.
