There's no denying that the Star Wars franchise quickly redeemed itself after the sequel trilogy failed to meet expectations. Of course, all thanks to The Mandalorian and Lucasfilm's venture into the world of streaming.

The success of the Pedro Pascal-led series gave Star Wars some much-needed boost, allowing Lucasfilm to come up with a number of spinoff projects. On the film side of things, there's no doubt that the show's triumph also gave the company renewed confidence.

However, it appears that there's trouble within the galaxy, and while fans have been putting the blame solely on Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy, the production company isn't responsible for all the failed projects after all.

According to the new tell-all book, MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios (via SFF Gazette), Disney pressured both Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm into announcing a slate of projects before they were ready, resulting in a number of projects ultimately getting canned.

Since 2020, Lucasfilm has announced a slew of Star Wars projects — both film and series. While some of them were able to see the light of day, including the likes of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka, high-profile projects such as A Droid Story, Rangers of the New Republic, and Rogue Squadron.

Earlier this year, reports surfaced that the Patty Jenkins-directed film has been removed from Lucasfilm's calendar despite the Wonder Woman filmmaker's statement from December 2022 claiming that she's still on board to do the project and that Lucasfilm was willing to wait for her to finish her DC commitments.

Despite the recent setbacks, Lucasfilm isn't showing signs of slowing down but you also can't deny that there's been a major decline in terms of quality for some of the projects they've put out this year, including the mega-polarizing The Mandalorian Season 3.

Meanwhile, the next Star Wars film is reportedly hitting cinemas in 2026.
