Earlier this year, Victoria Alonso, who served as the president of physical and post-production, visual effects, and animation at Marvel Studios, was fired by Disney. Her involvement in producing a film from a rival studio was cited as the reason behind her firing.

There have been some conflicting reports and statements from both sides regarding what actually went down behind the unceremonious firing. Some fans speculated that it had something with the backlash surrounding the studio's alleged treatment of the VFX artists.

Eventually, Alonso and Disney reached a multi-million dollar compensation settlement a month after she was let go and both sides have moved on since then.

Now, a new tell-all report has revealed what allegedly broke down prior to Alonso's firing.

The newly-released book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios by Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzales, and Gavin Edwards (via The Direct) offered some details on the conflict that happened between Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Alonso before the latter's firing.

They revealed that, a year prior to her firing, Alonso had "broken one of Feige’s cardinal rules: don’t speak out publicly against the company."

This was in the aftermath of Alonso's calling out of Bob Chapek, the Disney CEO during that time, who failed to stand against Florida's anti-LGBTQIA+ "Don't Say Gay" bill.

Later that year, Feige told Alonso that "she had outgrown her role at Marvel" and "reportedly cautioned her to 'keep her head down' and 'do the work.'"

In early 2023, Alonso refused to act on the request to remove the LGBTQIA+ pride symbols in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania for certain foreign markets.

It created an atmosphere at the studio that was described as "tense." In the end, Louis D'Esposito, another Marvel Studios executive, outsourced the VFX work which Alonso considered as an act of "betrayal."

Based on this report from the book, it sounded like there was already some tension between Alonso and her colleagues at Marvel Studios even before the former's firing and their working relationship was slowly becoming more fractured due to disagreements on multiple occasions.

Until now, Marvel Studios has not hired an official replacement for Alonso's former position.
