New Mutants Producer Reveals Why X-Men Film Required Extensive Reshoots

Fans have been wondering why The New Mutants needed several reshoots that pushed the film back to a later release date. Luckily, Simon Kinberg has revealed the real reason behind the delay.

Kinberg recently discussed the new X-Men projects that 20th Century Fox is currently working on. The Dark Phoenix director addressed the New Mutants reshoots, admitting that the film will be turned into a full-blown horror movie. According to Kinberg, it had a lot to do with how people reacted to the official trailer.

"Audiences really embraced the notion of a superhero movie or a comic book movie that was, in its core, a horror film," Kinberg said of The New Mutants. However, he did not disclose if the X-Men spin-off will feature scary monsters masquerading as mutants. Nevertheless, expect a lot of jump scares next year.

The New Mutants stars Anja Taylor-Joy (The Witch), Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), Henry Zaga (Teen Wolf), Blu Hunt (The Originals), and Alice Braga (City of God). Veteran actor Antonio Banderas has been cast in an undisclosed role although his character is expected to appear in a post-credit scene.

Although The New Mutants is expected to be the last X-Men film that will be released by Fox, Kinberg actually revealed that the studio is moving forward with the Gambit movie as soon as possible. In addition to that, the Dark Phoenix director stated that a Multiple Man flick is currently in the development and X-Force could actually begin production before the end of the year.

The New Mutants was initially scheduled for release on April 13 this year. However, this was moved back to February 22, 2019. The new premiere date is on August 2, 2019, but stay tuned for more updates in case that changes yet again.
