Fox To Continue Making X-Men Films Despite Disney Purchase

It's no secret that Fox is already being acquired by Disney. However, it looks like the studio is still pushing through with developing new X-Men movies despite the recent acquisition.

In June, The Walt Disney Company signed an amended acquisition agreement with 21st Century Fox for $71.3 billion. Nevertheless, it looks like Fox will try to finish its pending X-Men films before the acquisition is finalized.

Simon Kinberg recently spoke to IGN about his upcoming film Dark Phoenix. In addition to that, the director revealed that Fox is still working on its pending superhero projects.

"Gambit has a great script and we're looking to start that movie early next year. Multiple Man, that script's being worked on right now," Kinberg said. In reference to X-Force, he says, "We're just waiting for Drew Goddard to be done with releasing his film that comes out in a few weeks, and then he'll get started on that script to direct."

Kinberg offered some interesting updates about the Gambit movie starring Channing Tatum, calling it a "romantic comedy."

"You know, when I say 'romantic comedy', I use that term loosely, in the same term that I use the term western for Logan loosely. It's not like they're gunslingers at high noon in Logan. It's just a vibe. And I would say the vibe of Gambit has a romantic or sex comedy vibe to it. While it is also still very much a superhero movie with villains and heroes, as all these movies are."

Tatum has previously admitted that he is eager to start work on a new project. Although the Kingsman: The Golden Circle star did not confirm that he is ready to start filming Gambit, there is a huge possibility that Tatum will be working on the movie pretty soon.

Kinberg's Dark Phoenix will premiere on February 14, 2019.
