Disney's live-action Aladdin is coming this May, and the latest photo reveals a photo of Aladdin meeting Jasmine presumably for the first time.
In the photo from Empire, a smiling Aladdin (Mena Massoud) is seen on the lift across Jasmine (Naomi Scott). Jasmine doesn't seem to be as delighted as Aladdin in this photo, and it's probably because she's hiding her identity in the marketplace. You can also catch a glimpse of director Guy Ritchie's version of Agrabah in the image.
"In the original movie, it felt like [Jasmine] didn't have as compelling a goal," producer Dan Lin told Empire. "Her main aim was to find the love of her life. In this case, the romance is important, but she also wants to see more of Agrabah, and take more of a leadership role in ruling the city. Her character has a much stronger journey."
Directed by Guy Ritchie from a script he co-wrote with John August and Vanessa Taylor, the live-action Aladdin film stars Mena Massoud (Aladdin), Naomi Scott (Jasmine), Will Smith (Genie), Nasim Pedrad (Dalia), Billy Magnussen (Prince Anders), Numan Acar (Hakim), Navid Negahban (Sultan), and Marwan Kenzari (Jafar).
Aladdin is set to release in theaters on May 24.
