Later this year, Zack Snyder is set to unfold his next movie for Netflix titled Rebel Moon, an original epic science-fiction film that is reportedly in the same vein as Star Wars. It is expected to be one of Netflix's next big franchises and the director has hinted before that it will be expansive similar to Army of the Dead.
So far, we know that Rebel Moon is going to be a two-parter film as they shot both projects back-to-back for several months. Snyder has also teased that he is working on a video game adaptation of the film which is a sign of their ambitious plan to expand the universe.
Now, it looks like the franchise will be bigger than we ever thought as Netflix confirmed to The New York Times that Rebel Moon is now going to be a trilogy of films. While there was no mention of whether a green light has been given on the third film, this is a sign that they are moving forward with their plan.
This is interesting information since we're now getting the advanced notice that the story is going to be more expansive than we ever thought and this is the confirmation that Snyder has hugely ambitious plans and hopes with Netflix that it will be a popular original franchise.
It is hard to tell right now whether the plan will be a success since we're still just several months before the film's release. However, if Netflix is already confident with it, perhaps the audience will respond to it as well and encourage them to do more projects surrounding the universe.
The film's synopsis reads: "A peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius. The desperate civilians dispatch Kora, a young woman who has a mysterious past to seek out warriors from nearby planets to help them challenge the regent."
The cast includes Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Staz Nair, Charlie Hunnam, Anthony Hopkins, Jena Malone, Stuart Martin, Corey Stoll, Cary Elwes, Alfonso Herrera, Cleopatra Coleman, Fra Fee, and Ray Poster. Snyder co-wrote the film with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad.
