Netflix's BioShock Director Reveals Current Status of Production

In today's age, adaptations come in various forms and it could be in one way or another but for BioShock, the beloved video game will be having a movie on Netflix and director Francis Lawrence reveals the current status of the production of the movie.

Netflix tapped two of the most important people in August this year that would be involved in the BioShock film adaptation with Francis Lawrence from Hunger Games to direct the movie and Michael Green from Green Lantern, Blade Runner 2049, and Logan to adapt the script.

In an update on the current status of the film, director Francis Lawrence shared with Collider that writer Michael Green is currently in the process of writing the script of the movie and he believes that Green will do away with the usual video game movie pitfalls.

Lawrence said, "Well, Michael Green, who wrote Blade Runner 2049, among other things, and who's been a friend of mine for years, he's writing it, and he's in the middle of writing it right now."

Lawrence added, "We already have our take, outline, and all that kind of stuff, so that's all done. He's now just actually writing. That's why I said it's a real possibility of being what's next."

Lawrence points out what makes BioShock different from the rest, "A lot of games may have a great world of some kind, or they may have a great lead character, or they may tee you up for great set-pieces, but they don't really have the ideas, they don't have the kind of weight and the gravitas that Bioshock does."

Netflix proudly announced in February 2022 that the streaming platform will be adapting the BioShock franchise to a feature film working with Vertigo Entertainment and Take-Two Interactive with its subsidiary 2K.

The basis of the movie is the video game, BioShock, a first-person shooting game under 2K games set in 1960 following Jack who found Rapture, an underwater city built by Andrew Ryan. Jack fights his way through the isolated utopia to escape.

Francis Lawrence is known for his work on the Hunger Games franchise while Michael Green co-write Logan with James Mangold and Scott Frank, and also worked on Green Lantern, Alien: Covenant, Blade Runner 2049, Murder on the Orient Express, and Death on the Nile.

Netflix's BioShock movie has no release date yet.
