Iman Vellani made her MCU debut last year in Ms. Marvel as Kamala Khan. The actress has been adamant that she's been a huge fan of the character for years before she auditioned as evidenced by her viral photo where she cosplayed as the character for Halloween.

There is no doubt that joining the MCU as her favorite superhero was a dream come true for Vellani and she is now set to play her in more projects such as the upcoming film The Marvels where she will team up with her idol Captain Marvel.

Now, it looks like the actress will also be tapping into the pages of the comics as she is now set to contribute to Kamala Khan's decade-long history in the comics.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Vellani and Ms. Marvel TV series writer Sabir Pirzada are writing a new Kamala Khan comic series titled Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant where the hero will officially become a mutant just like in the MCU version.

It will follow the events of Fallen Friend: The Death of Ms. Marvel where the character met her demise, but she will be resurrected as a mutant in this new series.

The actress shared her excitement about contributing to the new comic series although she also admitted that she is more nervous about this endeavor than joining the MCU to play the character.

"This was way scarier than joining the MCU for me. Those projects feel like they live in their own dimension, so I guess I can separate myself easier," she said.

"But you can hold a comic book! I've never written anything before in my entire life, but I have read many comics, so I just wrote what I would want to read. I was given a very professional tool to write what is essentially my own fan fiction."

Vellani also assured fans that the new comic series will not replace her Inhuman origins and it will still be acknowledged in the story that they are telling.

"I want to make it very, very clear that we are not reconning her Inhuman origin. That's a part of Kamala's identity that Marvel editorial and myself would very much like to keep and protect," she explained.

"Our book will absolutely reflect all those core themes of identity that the Ms. Marvel comics have consistently explored — only now there's a whole new label that Kamala has to learn to accept. It's going to be pretty crazy."

She added, "Hopefully those readers who are kind of getting into the comics after the Disney+ show are going to have something fun to look forward to on shelves."

This is certainly interesting news since it's rare to see actors write a comic series for their superhero role and it is curious to see how Vellani will fare well as a writer now that she is Kamala Khan herself on screen and, obviously, as a huge fan of the character that she dearly loves.
