Mortal Kombat Star Ludi Lin Says Reboot Will Build New Universe for Film Franchise

There is little doubt that fans have high expectations when it comes to the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie. After all, the film is being produced by James Wan and already boasts of a cast with exceptional martial arts skills. But will it really lead to more movies based on the Midway video games? Ludi Lin says that fans should be ready for a new film universe coming in the future.

Lin, who will portray Liu Kang in the reboot, recently spoke to JayneStars about his new project and he revealed that he believes in Simon McQuoid's vision for the movie especially since the director embraced the franchise wholeheartedly.

"Director Simon McQuoid is very devoted to this world," Lin stated. "He is very passionate about building a universe of Mortal Kombat, rather than one single fight film."

But how far did McQuoid go to make this happen? According to Lin, the director made sure that the movie will cover everything including a proper origin story for the new cinematic universe.

"He started a back story of the entire world and made sure to flesh out the characters so that people feel it's not just a video game and there is some substance behind it," Lin said.

It certainly sounds like McQuoid went out of his way to prepare for possible sequels to the Mortal Kombat reboot. We're pretty optimistic at this point but will have to wait until the first trailer is released before we can declare if it will deserve Fatality or not.

Mortal Kombat recently wrapped up filming and is scheduled for release on January 15, 2021.
