Mortal Kombat Actor Teases Kung Lao Returning in Sequel with Cryptic Tweet

We already know that Mortal Kombat is getting a sequel but who will be returning for the second film? Interestingly, Max Huang has just posted a cryptic tweet possibly confirming the return of Kung Lao!

In the first film, Kung Lao was the most skilled of Earthrealm's warriors. Although he was able to easily defeat Nitara and save Cole Young from Sub-Zero, he is ultimately grabbed by Shang Tsung who steals Lao's soul.

It's pretty obvious that Kung Lao was killed in the first movie. But is it possible that he is still returning for the sequel? Max Huang recently shared a video of himself practicing his martial arts moves. It didn't take long for Mortal Kombat co-creator to retweet the post demanding to put Huang in a motion capture suit. Check it out below.

It's a cool interaction but could it also mean Huang will be back for Mortal Kombat 2? For now, it is still unclear if there is a way to bring Kung Lao back after his soul has been taken. Still, it would be awesome to see Lao in action again in the sequel.

It has already been confirmed that Mortal Kombat 2 is in development with Moon Knight scribe Jeremy Slater working on the screenplay. In addition to that, it was revealed that Simon McQuoid will return to direct the second film. However, none of the actors has been announced to reprise their roles in the movie.

So far, the only actor who is somehow confirmed to return for another Mortal Kombat film played one of the characters who suffered a fatality in the movie. Joe Taslim was previously revealed to have signed a multi-picture deal with the franchise.

Mortal Kombat 2 has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
