The DCEU movies under Zack Snyder have proven to be divisive over the years as some fans have disdain over the fan-favorite director's darker take on the iconic superheroes while some have defended his vision for the franchise.

Despite releasing Zack Snyder's Justice League showing the director's definitive version of the team-up film, Warner Bros. has moved on from that iteration of the franchise since it is set to undergo a reboot under James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Now, a director from a rival franchise has spoken out about his thoughts surrounding Snyder's DC movies and it sounds like he wasn't a fan either.

In an interview with Arabic Marvel (via The Cosmic Circus), Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab was asked about his thoughts regarding Gunn's taking over the DC franchise.

While he praised Gunn's work and expressed his hope for the DCU's success, he also criticized Snyder's DCEU movies from the old iteration as he didn't find any appeal in any of them.

"I know that some people don’t like James Gunn, but I see him as a great artist who will do great work. Frankly, I didn’t like the past period," Diab said.

"The last film, [Zack Snyder's] Justice League, was significantly better than the first version, but in the end, Snyder’s work in all the movies he made didn’t appeal to me."

He continued, "I liked James Gunn’s films much more. I think he’s a much greater artist and a very clever writer, and he will do excellent work for DC. I hope people won’t just criticize him because if he loses the DC audience, he’s done. But he is an artist, and he will create wonderful things."

Whether you agree with Diab's take or not, it is yet again another example of what we've heard all over the years regarding the polarizing reception of Snyder's DCEU films and it's clear that it's not as beloved as most MCU shows.

Diab has also criticized Wonder Woman 1984 and Black Adam for their portrayal of Egypt and the Middle East so it is understandable to hear his criticism of the past DC franchise and it influenced his work on the MCU series when it comes to proper Egyptian representation.
