Solomon's Flute chooses Akuma-kun (Ichiro Umoregi) to take on the challenge of achieving a utopia where humans and demons coexist. He runs a supernatural detective agency called Millenarianism Research Agency with his half-human and half-demon partner, Mephisto III. So, does Akuma-kun achieve the Millennium Kingdom?

What’s the Context Behind the Millennium Kingdom in Akuma-kun?

The Millennium Kingdom is a utopia for both demons and humans. It is a place where both kinds can coexist without any problems or threats from each other.

It is also a place where everyone is free from strife, hunger, and conflict. It is the end goal of all generations of Akuma-kun, who were chosen by Solomon’s Flute.

There are different generations of Akuma-kun, but in the Netflix ONA, the current Akuma-kun is none other than Ichiro Umoregi, previously known as Aeshama in the demon realm.

While the previous generation Akuma-kun, Shingo Umoregi, is adamant about achieving the Millennium Kingdom, his adoptive son Ichiro is not interested in making any progress at all.

He only wants to solve supernatural cases that interest him and nothing else. He also acts apathetic and indifferent towards others, particularly humans.

Unlike other generations of Akuma-kun, including Shingo, Ichiro was raised by demons, which likely affected his way of life.

He was well-acquainted with Strophaia, a scarlet demon who prides himself on being the most superior among humans and demons alike.

In addition, Ichiro believes that he’s not obligated to achieve the Millennium Kingdom, despite Shingo’s countless efforts to push him to do it.

He doesn’t see any merit in doing it at all, all the while saying that his stupid father failed to achieve the Millennium Kingdom, which is why he was the next in line to do this.

On the contrary, Ichiro’s partner, Mephisto III, aims to achieve the Millennium Kingdom not only for his parents, who are both humans and demons but also for the sake of the people he cares about, including Sanae and her daughter.

The Millennium Kingdom is a long-overdue dream for all generations of Akuma-kun (except Ichiro) and Mephistos.

If only Ichiro could act accordingly and align his interests with the people around him, it would be a different kind of story, but that would not be an interesting premise, right?

No, Ichiro Umoregi has yet to achieve the Millennium Kingdom in Akuma-kun, despite Shingo Umoregi’s encouragement and Mephisto III’s contributions.

He still feels the same way about it, except he has learned how to feel more about other people.

Honestly, Ichiro’s character had little development in Akuma-kun. He’s still the same logical and apathetic Akuma-kun who doesn’t feel obligated by the responsibilities of being the current Akuma-kun the Solomon Flute chose.

Yes, Ichiro learned how to open his heart to people (at least he tries now), but he still has a long way to go. If only Akuma-kun Season 2 were green-lit, we would perhaps see more developments about his character.

Other factors, like Strophaia’s involvement with Akuma-kun and Mephisto III’s goal to achieve the Millennium Kingdom, also added to the conflict.

Demons like Strophaia, and even Satan and Gremory, make it harder for Akuma-kun and Mephisto III to achieve their goal, not to mention the humans who love to take advantage of demonic powers for their interests.
