MCU Theory Suggests that General Ross is a Skrull

For a while, we hadn't seen General Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt' Ross in the MCU since The Incredible Hulk, and only recently has he been back thanks to Captain America: Civil War. Seeing that Captain Marvel is going to introduce the audience to the concept of shape-shifting Skrulls, a new theory suggests that Ross has actually been a Skrull this whole time.

This comes from Reddit:

I'll admit, Ross being at center of the Sokovia Accords can be a bit fishy, but if you dig deep enough, I think it can all boil down on his distrust for Bruce Banner/Hulk. In the Hulk film, Ross has a grudge on Banner because not only is Banner key to creating a new type of super soldier, but he's also dating the General's daughter, Betty.

The way I see it, his distrust for a metahuman like Banner is probably making him skeptical of anyone else with advanced abilities—enter the Avengers.

Going back to the Super Skrull with Avenger-powers, I think it's a cool concept, but ultimately unnecessary. Captain Marvel is already filled to the brim with antagonists, and with the Fantastic Four set to come to the MCU soon (along with the X-Men), they could pretty much bring the Skrulls in for a movie in that franchise at some point down the line.

Then again, it would be interesting to see a higher-up actually be a Skrull that has been in disguise the whole while. Besides, it might be able to bring an interesting end to the arc of General Ross. Maybe it can even be the Hulk taking him down?

We have no idea when Ross will return, but seeing as he had a small role in Infinity War, it could very much happen again in Avengers 4.

Catch Avengers 4 in theaters May 3, 2019.
