MCU Director Unveils Why Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Has a Darker Tone

MCU fans know exactly why Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the most highly anticipated yet dreading threequel to see.

Volume 3 ends the trilogy James Gunn has served under Marvel, which means we may never get to see the Guardians together again in their own movie.

The trailer itself had been teasing about Rocket the raccoon's past story, and potentially, we'll also get to see how his life ends.

Now, Chris Pratt and James Gunn elaborate on why Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has a much darker tone as compared to its two previous volumes.

“[The movie has] matured in its emotionality the same way that probably the audience has matured.” Pratt said in a recent interview with Rolling Stone (via CBR.com).

The Star-Lord actor shared, “The kids who loved Guardians were teenagers, and now they're in their mid-twenties, and it's really exciting to think that they're ready for this movie the way that they might not have been nine years ago.”

Gunn then went on to add a particular detail too difficult to miss when you're watching a Guardians of the Galaxy film: its entrance music.

“[Volume 3] doesn't start with Mr. Blue Sky. It doesn't start with Come and Get Your Love. It starts with Radiohead's acoustic version of Creep. And that's just a much different tone from the beginning than the other two films.”

Apart from its change of pace with its original soundtrack, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has the longest runtime amongst its trilogy.

Seeing as this will be Gunn's last MCU film, it comes to no surprise that Volume 3 set the new runtime record for his franchise.

Not to mention, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is also featuring Marvel and Disney's first ever uncensored F-bomb, which all the more highlights its mature tone.

James's Gunn's last MCU project, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, premieres on May 5.
