Ever since she made her debut as Carol Danvers in the MCU back in 2019, Brie Larson has unfortunately become the subject of toxic backlash from some of the fans and there were even attempts to review bomb the audience scores of Captain Marvel in various sites.

However, despite all of that, Marvel Studios is still standing by Larson's casting in the MCU and she still makes occasional appearances in various projects for the last few years including the upcoming The Marvels.

Given that most of the original members of the Avengers have either exited or are set to leave soon, some fans have presumed that Larson will serve as one of the new leaders of the team moving forward, but that hasn't necessarily been set yet.

Now, a new tell-all report has shed some light on Larson's tenure in the MCU amidst the toxic backlash and it sounds like her days in the franchise might already be numbered.

The newly-released tell-all book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios by Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzales, and Gavin Edwards (via The Direct) revealed that Larson has grown "disillusioned" over working with Marvel Studios due to the toxic backlash that she has received on playing Carol Danvers.

"The future of those Marvel icons was unclear. The departure of franchise anchors like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johansson had already taken its toll, as had the shocking loss of Chadwick Boseman, but other MCU stalwarts were heading for the exits," they wrote in the book.

"The Guardians of the Galaxy cast went on a farewell tour, Brie Larson grew disillusioned, and Marvel tussled with Sony in a custody battle over Tom Holland."

In an interview with Variety last year, Larson gave a wry response when she was asked about her future as Captain Marvel after The Marvels, which may have already hinted back then about her feelings regarding her MCU tenure.

"I don't know. Does anyone want me to do it again?" the actress responded.

When Robinson recently appeared on The Watch podcast to promote her book, she reiterated her writing on the book by noting that the toxic backlash has led to Larson being disinterested in playing Carol Danvers anymore.

"[Marvel Studios] put Brie Larson in [a prominent place in the MCU]. I don't know if Brie Larson was the wrong person for the role necessarily. But the toxic backlash means that Brie Larson doesn't want to play Carol Danvers anymore," she said.

This is unfortunate to hear since it sounded like the toxic backlash that Larson received all over the years has hurt her feelings towards her stay in the MCU and it's not surprising at this point if she decides to leave in the near future even though she has only played the role for four years at this point.

Perhaps the reception of The Marvels in a few weeks will be a make or break regarding her future in the MCU or her experience teaming up with other actresses/heroes might also change her mind instead.

The Marvels is set to arrive in theaters this November 10.
