Marvel May Have Accidentally Revealed Black Widow Villain Iron Maiden

There certainly a whole lot of excitement building up over Black Widow. Not only is the film Scarlett Johansson's very first standalone movie as Natasha Romanoff, but it's also the very first movie in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Careful to keep spoilers from making their way online, Marvel has been keeping a tight hold on Black Widow and all of the film's major twists and turns. However, despite all of the precautions that Marvel is taking to keep Black Widow spoiler-free, Showbiz Cheat Sheet says that Marvel may have accidentally teased Rachel Weisz character Melina as Iron Maiden.

According to the entertainment news outlet, Marvel just recently created character emojis for Black Widow and the person behind the update accidentally gave away that Melina is going to be revealed as Iron Maiden. Whenever a social media user decides to use the Melina emoji in his or her post, the image shows the Black Widow character in the form of Iron Maiden.

To the uninitiated, Iron Maiden is an agent of the Russian government forced to live under the shadow of Black Widow. Iron Maiden, later on, becomes a Black Widow villain, joining the Femizon, an army of superhuman female criminals. In the comics, Melina Vostokoff is also known as Iron Maiden.

Marvel never really revealed Rachel Weisz's character as a Vostokoff, so it comes as a surprise to see the studio giving away the character's full identity as Iron Maiden.

Could this little reveal have been deliberate? Or could it have been a mistake made by Marvel's social media marketing team?

Let's wait and see what Marvel has planned for the character.

Black Widow is set to premiere on May 1, 2020.
